Late this summer, 1997, the Free-Net will no longer be using ResNova but will switch
to a unix type software. To access the new Free-Net you will need to use a
web browser, i.e. Netscape, Explorer or whatever. We will be supporting a PPP
dial-up. The type of dial up system we are now using (called POTS) will be
discontinued.
This change is necessary for us to take advantage of a higher speed internet
access line. The Free-Net internet connection will increase by five times from
using any of the older modems. Yes, Macintosh system will be able to connect
using PPP.
The Free-Net will, as in the past, provide software which will help you
configure your computer to use a PPP (Point to Point Protocol) connection.
This software will be made available for downloading from our present system
or purchased from the Chamber of Commerce for a nominal fee.
